Shape (or vitola) refers to a cigar’s length, ring gauge, and whether it’s straight-sided or tapered/figurado. Shape affects draw, burn behavior, how flavors concentrate or evolve, and the expected smoking time. Choosing the right shape helps you match smoking time and flavor intensity to your preference.

Montesco typically offers classic shapes such as Robusto, Corona, Churchill, Toro and also figurados like Torpedo, Belicoso and Perfecto. Each vitola has a distinct length and ring gauge that creates different smoking experiences—from short, concentrated smokes to long, leisurely ones.

Thicker ring gauges generally deliver cooler smoke and can showcase broader, more complex flavors because more filler tobacco contributes to the blend. Tapered or pointed shapes (torpedo, belicoso) can concentrate flavor at the tip and change how the blend opens up during the smoke. Overall strength is more determined by the blend, but shape modifies how you perceive it.

Straight-sided cigars (Robusto, Toro, Churchill) work well with a straight cut or guillotine. Figurado shapes (torpedo, belicoso, perfecto) often benefit from a V-cut or carefully placed straight cut to preserve the cap and control draw. Toast the foot gently and rotate the cigar while lighting to ensure an even burn regardless of shape.

Beginners often prefer Robusto or Corona sizes because they offer predictable draws, moderate smoking times (30–60 minutes), and easy handling. If you’re unsure, try a sampler with several shapes to find what suits your palate and the time you want to spend smoking.

No—shape does not change the basic humidification needs. Store Montesco cigars in a humidor at roughly 65–72% relative humidity and about 65–70°F (18–21°C). For long or fragile figurados, ensure they lie flat or are supported to avoid deforming the cap or foot.
