A Lancero is a long, slender cigar vitola traditionally characterized by a narrow ring gauge (commonly around 38–40) and an extended length (often near 7 inches). Its shape emphasizes wrapper-driven flavors and a refined, focused smoking profile compared with thicker formats.
The narrow ring gauge concentrates the smoke through a smaller airway, which intensifies the influence of the wrapper and can produce a more precise, nuanced flavor profile. Lanceros usually deliver a cooler smoke and a slower burn, but the draw can be more sensitive—small differences in construction or cut are more noticeable than with larger vitolas.
Smoking time depends on the exact dimensions and the smoker’s pace, but a classic Lancero (around 7″ x 38) generally takes about 60–90 minutes. Because of their slender shape, pacing and relighting have a noticeable impact on total time.
